RPI Exhaust Upgrade for the BMW X6 M

BMW X6 M Has A Flat Cornering, Thanks To Its Electronically Controlled Sway-Bar.

BMW X6 M Has A Flat Cornering, Thanks To Its Electronically Controlled Sway-Bar.

What a Great Cornering BMW!

The Electronically Controlled Sway-Bar on the BMW’s X6 M makes possible to corner without feeling the vehicle-lean experienced in most cars. On-board computers and yaw sensors adjust the sway bars on its suspension and in effect, push-back or lift up the side that’s leaning into the corner. The effect is an incredibly flat ride into and out of the corners.

BMW X6 M Rear Differential has two types of fluid, not one, like all other previous BMWs

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

Did you know that the BMW X6 M has two types of fluids in the rear differential, not one, like all the other previous BMWs?

BMW's X6M Rear Diff. has two types of fluid...ATF on the outside, Diff fluid in the center

The Center Section (the Differential) is filled with BMW diff. fluid, while the two outer sections (electronically controlled) are filled with the BMW Transmission Fluid. The electronics govern the torque applied to each axle for maximum traction and power to the wheel.

P.S. Tilting the differential more than 45 Degrees, while removed will mix fluids from one chamber to the other, rendering the unit useless, which will have to be rebuilt.

3 Reasons to Get an Alignment on Your Jaguar

Sunday, August 28th, 2011

Reason 1: Car Pulls On an Even Surface

If your Jaguar is pulling while you are driving on a smooth flat surface, this is an indicator of possible faulty tires, worn or damaged steering components, or an alignment that is incorrectly set.  All of these items will cause your Jaguar to pull and exhibit faster than normal tire wear.  Having an alignment performed on your Jaguar ensures all of these items are checked and serviced properly.

Reason 2: Steering Wheel is Offset

If your Jaguar’s steering wheel is off center while driving on a straight flat surface, an improper alignment or worn tires can contribute to this.  Driving with the steering wheel off center can cause accelerated tire wear.

Reason 3: Uneven Tire Wear

A poor alignment can create uneven tire wear and the needless costs associated with early tire replacement.  A proper alignment will keep tires in good usable condition to allow the most life from the tires.  Your Jaguar’s alignment should be checked on an annual basis to ensure maximum tire life, so stop by Autoscope to check your alignment.

3 Reasons for BMW Brake Service

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

Brake Light On

BMWs have multiple ways of letting you know brake service is due.  An actual failure of the braking pressure, fluid level, traction control or ABS systems will cause the actual word “brake” to be displayed either in yellow or red depending on what fault is occurring.  A brake pad warning lamp will be shown if the vehicle’s brake pads are at their minimum, or on the higher line vehicles, an actual message will be displayed indicating “Check brake linings, visit workshop.” So when you see the Brake light, bring your vehicle into Autoscope.

Brakes are Squealing

Brake squeal can be caused by multiple items, one could be debris collected around the area where the caliper holds the pad.  Brake squeal is generated by vibration of the pad within the caliper bracket (much like running your finger around a wine glass), whether it be caused by debris, a lip on the edge of the rotor, or imperfection in the rotor surface or just an out of tolerance pad backing plate.

Brakes are Jerky

If your brakes are pulling during use, this can be caused by a brake fluid leak onto the pad surface causing loss of friction or a faulty brake hose.  If they are shimmying while braking, the most common cause is warped brake rotors.  Brake rotors can warp from being too thin to handle the heat generated from braking, or due to pad material being imbedded into one spot on the rotor causing a surface that is no longer uniform.

Autoscope has trained BMW technicians to ensure you get the quality brake service you need at affordable prices. Call any of our three locations to make an appointment.

Three Reasons to NOT Machine Your Rotors

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

Reason 1: Safety!

Most European brake rotors are designed for maximum performance while remaining as light weight as possible.  Each rotor has a minimum thickness measurement stamped directly in the rotor itself. When you “ turn “ the rotor you are actually removing material from the rotor, which most often reduces the thickness below the minimum safe operating thickness.  You run the risk of warping the rotor or even worse causing the rotor to crack!

Reason 2: Noise!

When the brake rotor is turned, the new surface is not always smooth. Any imperfections in the rotor surface may cause accelerated wear on the brake pads and may result in brake squeal.

Reason 3: Cost!

For the price you may pay to have the old worn rotors removed, turned, then reinstalled on your vehicle you could spend a little more and have new matching parts installed.  You run the risk of having to replace the same parts sooner, paying for the work to be performed twice.

Audi 1.8 Wiring Harness Deteriorates

Audi 1.8 wiring harness deteriorates, causing misfires and check engine light to come on.

Audi 1.8 Wiring Harness Deteriorates

The fix to this common problem is to renew the Plug Ends to the harness with new ones. We’ve only seen the 1.8L, Turbo engines exhibiting this problem so far…the heat generated by the Turbo seems to be the culprit.
