Why MUST you change your BMW’s engine oil more frequently?
Because, you don’t want this to happen to your BMW’s engine!
This BMW engine had regularly scheduled oil changes based on BMW’s recommended 10,000 mile service interval. As you can see, the sludge buildup is substantial and has caused a failure in delivering the proper amount of oil pressure to the critical areas, causing a failure and costing far more than an extra oil change would’ve cost every year.
This is what the above picture of a BMW valve cover looked like after cleaning it. Make sure you change your BMW’s engine oil every 7,500 miles…synthetic oils may have some great advantages, however, they’re not exempt from sludge buildup if you don’t change your BMW’s oil every 7,500 miles.
Your BMW’s engine will continue to accumulate dirt, every day you drive it, and it will do so until your engine’s oil filter eventually clogs up and can no longer filter out any dirt particles. Your BMW’s oil filter is designed to bypass any oil around the filter element if it gets clogged or fails, ensuring the delivery of lubrication necessary to keep the metal-on-metal contact of internal engine parts. As more and more dirt gets bypassed around the filter element, more and more of it starts to stick to the walls of the oil-passage-ways, eventually causing a smaller and smaller diameter to deliver the precious lubrication to those vital areas, which, may cause the failure of your engine.
Would you change your home’s furnace filter once a year?
If you do, then, you know how dirty the filter will get, and you know that either, the air flow will be diminished or the dirt will end up in your house. Well, that’s exactly what will happen to your engine if you don’t change the oil regularly.
In conclusion, the synthetic oil may not break down, however, the dirt in the oil will cause gunk and clog your engine’s passage-ways, which, will cause the failure of your BMW’s engine.
These following photos are of a BMW engine’s valve-train and timing chain with just 41,406 miles, it has had 10,000 mile interval oil changes. Autoscope recommends a maximum of 7,500 mile oil change interval with synthetic oils.
